Certificate Clerk/ICD Billing Coder

Bayview Crematory and Burial Service, one of Southern California’s premier funeral, cremation, and burial services companies, seeks an experienced ICD Billing Coder to serve as a full-time Death Certificate Clerk in its central San Diego location.

Responsibilities include:

~ Properly completing death certificates as required;
~ Facilitating effective electronic death certificate registrations through EDRS (will be trained in this tool);
~ Working with bereaved families and/or medical doctors and their nurses to gather the information needed to complete death certificates while being sensitive to the emotion of the circumstances;
~ Establishing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with the Health Department;
~ Administering day-to-day office operations such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, greeting visitors, clerical duties (i.e. filing, data entry), and other standard office procedures;
~ Staying current on knowledge in related laws and statutes;
~ Assisting Owner/CEO in other duties as needed.

Candidates are required to have a minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a medical secretary or in another role where they gained a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology and/or ICD 9 or 10 coding. Candidates will be motivated to take initiative and develop appropriate corrective strategies to improve work flow; be organized and have a strong attention to detail; be professional in demeanor and attire, and be highly ethical at all times; and have excellent relationship-building and customer service skills. In addition, candidates must:

~ Have a valid CA driver’s license, a clean DMV record, and be willing to submit to a background check and random drug testing;
~ Be able to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to multiline phones, fax machines, scanners, copy machines, and the like;
~ Have a working knowledge of MS Office Suite, as well as proper English grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
~ Have the ability to use a manual typewriter as needed;
~ Have a comprehension of basic business/legal forms;
~ Be available to work Monday -- Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, cover satellite offices (Southern California), and work overtime when needed.
